What Others Are Saying
"Unquestionably ideal for the practice of yoga...this CD is profoundly beautiful."
"Each superb selection on Surrender moves naturally into the next, creating an inspired background for the practice of traditional yoga...and, of course, this beautiful music can be thoroughly enjoyed apart from any exercise whatsoever, whether for a restful interlude or to offer a soothing influence while driving, cleaning, cooking, etc. Aptly titled, its ambience invites surrender to a higher state of being."
Seattle New Times
"Swami Kriyananda, the founder of Ananda Yoga, wrote much of the lovely music for this album, designed specifically to accompany the routines of a typical yoga class. Kriyananda's golden baritone voice begins and ends the album with 'Namaste, Salutation' (suitable for the Sun Salutation) and the meditative aum, 'Namaskar, Blessing.' The liner notes suggest typical yoga asanas to accompany each track. The lengthy 'Brahma, the Awakening' can be used for the energetic postures; here, Agni plays sitar with string drone and tabla accompaniment. The pace builds gradually, but the sound is so languid that it almost seems to do the stretching for you. 'Vishnu, the Sustainer' and 'Shiva, the Destroyer of Delusion' both feature a rhapsodic theme taken from the chants of Paramhansa Yogananda. Cellist David Eby and harpist Derek Bell (of the Chieftains) take the lusciously mystical melody line on these two tracks. Harpist Donelle Page, guitarist Anna Alessandri, tabla player Lewis Howard, and keyboard artist David Miller complete the ensemble. This soothing music is also suitable for massage, relaxation, or simply creating a relaxing atmosphere."
