Don’t Die So You Can Realize You Are Deathless

While searching for vitamins online a few months ago, I came across Blueprint, a company founded by Bryan Johnson. You may have seen his Netflix documentary, "Don't Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever." Johnson is on a mission to push the boundaries of human health and longevity, which is commendable. He's challenging the status quo and encouraging healthier lifestyles. Self-preservation is our strongest instinct. It's connected to our real soul substance or eternal nature, "Sat," the Sanskrit word for existence. Simply, we all yearn to be.

While Johnson focuses on optimizing physical health, as yogis, we understand that true fulfillment lies beyond physical existence in our true nature as the soul. Yogananda defines our soul nature as "Sat-Chit-Ananda" – ever-existing, ever-conscious, ever-new joy. This bliss can be experienced through deep meditation, where we connect with the Divine.

Yogananda emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy body, stating in his Autobiography of a Yogi, "The first duty of man is to keep his body in good condition; otherwise his mind is unable to remain fixed in devotional concentration.” He also advised Swami Kriyananda: "Keep exercised and body fit for God-realization.”

In his “Don’t Die” protocol, Johnson rightly points out that sleep is crucial for health. However, sleep itself reminds us of the state beyond subconscious deep sleep—the state of superconsciousness bliss.

Our primary focus should be on communion with God and achieving self-mastery. As Yogananda said, “Make God, not food, your religion. " A healthy lifestyle is essential, but it should support our spiritual journey, not become the sole objective.

Let's prioritize our spiritual growth and allow it to guide our approach to health and wellbeing.
