A Fight for Religious Freedom

Sale priceRs500.00

The compelling story of a groundbreaking, 12-year legal battle launched against the smaller Ananda Church by the established and wealthy Self-Realization Fellowship—both followers of the spiritual master Paramhansa Yogananda, author of the classic Autobiography of a Yogi. SRF’s intent was, as the judge observed, “to put Ananda out of business.” Includes rare vignettes that offer a timeline glimpse into the challenges of Yogananda’s own mission to the West.

Author Jon Parsons is the Palo Alto lawyer who spearheaded Ananda’s “David and Goliath” fight in court, which resulted in a precedent that protects U.S. religious groups from domination by their larger counterparts.

Critically Important Information

Inside information is often hard to come by about religious movements. Most information about them only shows the good side of things, but not the bad, not the unpleasantness, not the rivalries, the infighting, or jockeying for power that often goes on when master pass on the banner of authority to the next generation of leaders. This book does explore those issues, and they are not pretty. Key members of SRF betrayed their master, Yogananda, created a fake Yogananda, i.e., a substitute master more to their liking and understanding, and then tried to destroy a little offshoot of truth tellers at Ananda who wanted to be free to to their own way, speak their own minds and interpret their master's teachings in their own way. SRF "crucified" their own master, then "crucified" Swami Kriyananda, too, nearly destroying him. But God was with Ananda. God wanted Ananda to survive. Shame on SRF for these spiritual crimes. God bless Yogananda, Swami Kriyananda, John R. Parsons, and the many loving souls at Ananda for their incredible courage, dedication, and hard work in spreading the knowledge of God and his love to the world! This book is a very important chronicle in the history of Yogananda's work and what it took to preserve and protect it.
