Whether you hum in the shower, sing in your car, or even if you think you can’t sing, this songbook is for you. May it become a dog-eared companion: well-worn, and well-loved.
For Ananda musicians, these songs have become the inner soundtrack of our spiritual aspiration. They grow sweeter with each passing year as they gradually reveal more of their meaning. Many people have been profoundly touched by this music. Some have been healed.
May this music do the same for you.
For a long time, Swami Kriyananda’s written music has been accessible a few singers and musicians. With this new songbook, all 190 of his vocal melodies are available to everyone. Even long-time Ananda musicians will discover gems they may never have heard before.
Refining each song has been a two year labor of love. Extra choral parts and complex instrumentation have been removed. Optional key changes are provided for ease of group singing. Beginning guitarists and pianists will find most of the music easy to learn and play.
This music is for your personal enjoyment, group sing-alongs, and performances.
Swami Kriyananda composed over 400 pieces of music. Though he often consciously drew this inspiration, there were many times a melody came into his awareness, asking to be written down and shared. He was moved to tears as he composed, describing the process as receiving from a higher source. “This music is not my music. It is a new consciousness coming into the world as music.”
Music touches us deeply, in a way that bypasses the conscious mind. Singing can uplift our consciousness, overcoming moods and challenging attitudes. May these songs enrich your life, opening new worlds of self-discovery and joy.
“This songbook is a triumph! It has revolutionized accessibility of Swami Kriyananda’s music. This is a must-have for anyone who enjoys Swami’s music. It makes finding, learning, and playing these songs effortless and fun. Even the pieces traditionally accompanied by more challenging arrangements have simple chords — I am unaccomplished on the guitar, yet I could play my way through about half of the songbook in a single sitting without any trouble! Now, I keep it by my meditation space and sing some of this music every day.
The physical edition is very well laid out, with almost zero mid-song page turns. The book boasts an impressive index, making it easy to find the song you’re looking for. My personal favorite feature is a song-by-category section at the end of the book, listing songs by their qualities or attributes. Want to find one of Swami’s lullabies but can’t remember the name? No problem! Want to find a few songs to bring out spirit in nature? There’s a whole list of those! And so on. This feature alone makes the book invaluable to any devotee and anyone creating experiences for others.
The digital version is a treat. Easy to use features allow you to jump quickly from title to title, as well as instant access to links to online recordings of how to play and sing many of the songs.
I have both physical and digital versions, and use both almost daily. Everyone should have the digital version on their phone, if nothing else.
This book is probably the greatest breakthrough in accessibility to Swami Kriyananda’s music I’ve seen so far. Please make an instrumental one next!”—Keshava Betts, Mountain View, CA
