Gyana Prabha Ghosh, Paramhansa Yogananda’s mother, was a guiding light in his life and was initiated into Kriya Yoga by the revered Master Lahiri Mahasaya. Yogananda praised her profound spiritual influence in *Autobiography of a Yogi*, recalling Lahiri Mahasaya's prophecy that she would raise a yogi who would guide many souls to God.
In this portrait, she is encircled by two rings of ornate Indian floral patterns in muted colors, enhanced with glass jewels, orange silk ranunculus flowers, glittered branches, and smaller silk flowers. At the bottom, an arrangement of silver and gold leaves and flowers adds an elegant finishing touch.

Previously he worked as a creative director at a boutique ad agency in Manhattan where he learned how to meet tight deadlines and pull all-nighters — things he has been blessed not to have to do at Ananda.
He has lived in New York, Cape Cod, and Boston, earning a degree in American Literature and Music from Boston University before attending art school, majoring in sculpture.
Surya creates graphic images on the computer and enhances them with various media on giclée prints.
